Teaching Philosphy

I truly believe that if we want to see change, it has to start with us. As a teacher, I recognize that the kind of transformation I hope to see in the world has to begin in my own actions and mindset. The energy, care, and commitment I bring to my classroom have the power to inspire students, and I know that the way I show up every day can make a real difference in their lives. Change begins with me, and I’m always ready to lead that change.

MY OBJECTIVES

At the heart of my teaching is the firm belief that every child deserves the chance to learn and grow. I believe that no matter their background, challenges, or abilities, every student has untapped potential, and it’s my job to help them discover and develop it. I’m all about creating a classroom environment that’s not only inviting but also student-centered. This means that I focus on their individual needs, their unique strengths, and their learning styles. When students feel seen and heard, they feel empowered to take charge of their own learning.

Classroom

I want to make sure that every child feels safe and encouraged to explore, ask questions, and even make mistakes without fear. This is where real growth happens. My goal is to nurture critical thinking, creativity, and a deep love for learning. I believe in using different teaching methods and tools—whether that’s group activities, technology, or project-based learning—to make lessons engaging and accessible to all students.

Ultimately, my mission is to help students become confident, capable individuals who can think for themselves and approach challenges with an open mind. The kind of change I want to see in the world begins in the classroom. When I lead with empathy, integrity, and dedication, I hope to spark a ripple effect that encourages others—students, teachers, and the community at large—to embrace change and grow together.

About Me

My journey into teaching began with a deep, personal experience of witnessing the struggles of my family and community, where the lack of education trapped individuals in cycles of poverty, unfulfilled dreams, and limited opportunities. From as early as five years old, I was compelled to help change this narrative. I would gather objects in my backyard and pretend to teach them, imitating my teachers—because I instinctively knew that education was the key to unlocking a brighter future. I saw the painful consequences of inadequate education—young girls facing early pregnancies, boys turning to drugs and gangs, and family members settling for lives of mediocrity. These heartbreaking realities ignited a burning desire in me to make a difference.

Getting to Know Me Better

My teaching career began at El Instituto de Mandevilla Preparatory School, where I quickly discovered a natural ability to break down complex ideas into simple, understandable concepts. I developed a teaching method that mirrored the way I had learned, focusing on reaching every student—especially those facing hidden learning challenges. This understanding fueled my decision to pursue a diploma in education, which propelled me to seven transformative years at Holmwood Technical High School. There, I dedicated myself to helping students bridge gaps in literacy and language, knowing how critical those skills are to their success. Additionally, my journey has taken me to classrooms across Jamaica and in Mexico where I gave of myself to make the difference that I dreamed of.

In my classroom, I embraced a variety of dynamic teaching strategies, including differentiated instruction, project-based learning, flipped classrooms, research, class projects, blended learning, direct instruction, game based learning, collaborative learning, demonstration, learning through immersion, task-based method,  classroom technology.and collaborative work.

My goal is to create a learning environment where every student feels empowered to express themselves, think critically, and become confident, global citizens. I believe that education is the key to unlocking human potential, and I am committed to helping students realize their ability to break through limitations and soar. With a deep commitment to both traditional and progressive teaching approaches, I am confident that I can help shape a future where students not only excel academically but also grow into compassionate, capable individuals.

 Rock Solid Education

A good education is like stacking rocks, where each piece of knowledge builds upon the last to form a strong and stable foundation. The process starts with foundational skills, and as students progress, new concepts are carefully added, just like layers of rocks. Critical thinking, resilience, and consistency are key, as students must apply and balance what they’ve learned. Challenges faced along the way strengthen the overall structure, leading to a well-rounded, capable individual. Like a rock formation, a good education creates a strong, enduring foundation for lifelong success.
